LIM CHIEN CH’ENG

Chien Ch’eng commenced practice in 1981 with an established firm in Kuala Lumpur. He then joined a Penang-based firm before commencing practice alone. Ghazi & Lim was subsequently formed with Dato Ghazi Ishak and several notable practitioners with branches initially at Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Butterworth and then Johor Bahru. The initial years of his practice was focused on general litigation involving criminal, commercial and corporate matters. His present areas of practice include real estate, capital markets (debt and equity), mergers and acquisitions of private and listed companies, joint ventures and private equity investments, corporate restructuring, cross-border corporate exercises, Initial Public Offerings on Bursa Malaysia, privatisations, advising on foreign direct investments into Malaysia and legal issues concerning manufacturers and start-up companies, operations of multinational corporations, Government of Malaysia entities as well as non-profit and non-government organisations.

He sits on the Board of Directors of several companies, is the Chairman of two companies listed on Bursa Malaysia and a Foundation, is the Trustee of an Association in Malaysia and, until recently, the Trustee of aCommonwealth Non-Governmental Organisation associated with the World Health Organisation.

• Advising on legal issues relating to the construction of Penang’s tallest skyscraper and the development of integrated complexes comprising offices, hotel and shopping mall

• Advising on legal issues relating to venture capitalist investments into technology start-ups
• Advising a semiconductor wafer fabricator, a strategic national interest project, promoting front-end semiconductor manufacturing industry
• Advising and acting in the take-over of several stock broking firms and several listed companies
• Advising and acting for the purchaser of land whose title was challenged on purported fraud as regards the indefeasibility of title
• Advising and acting in the sale and purchase of yachts and aircraft
